Why the #ThinkersPlay 3D Design Challenge?
How does our 3D Design Course differ?
Learning for the sake of clear application. We are here to help you further develop your understanding but with a real-life problem that needs to be solved and can physically be done so once you have completed your challenge.
Hint: Keep in mind what you have already noticed to be a problem in your home, community, country or the world and how you could create a solution to that problem, using 3D printing. As an example, (see link) a physician was able to construct an emergency ventilator mask to protect medical personal fighting COVID-19, by adjusting a snorkelling mask already available on the market.
Thought Africa is a company that exists to help bridge the gap between having access to quality education and stimulating innovative, critical thinking skills to children and young adults by deeply rooting ourselves in the mission to achieve the above mentioned United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 17.
By identifying 1 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, this will create the structure for where you get to show off your creative ideas and launch them into life!
Really, we mean it! All it takes is for you to submit your solution to one UN Sustainable Development challenge before midnight, 4 June 2020 and we will personally deliver the equipment to your door as well as print your product for you.
Details on where and how to submit your challenge will become available once your challenge entry has been purchased.
SUBMISSIONS CLOSE: Friday, 26 JUNE 2020
Part of this challenge is to learn the basics of 3D Design. If you have no experience, we have you covered. In your downloaded lesson pack, we have some short video tutorials to help get you started.
Once you have purchased the #ThinkersPlay 3D Design Challenge, you will receive an email with all the details.
- Videos on the basics of 3D Design.
- Design Challenge details in a downloadable PDF.
- All videos and tutorials are contained within the PDF.
A laptop, computer or tablet and steady internet connection is all you’ll need. A computer mouse, pen, paper and a ruler will also help.
There are no software downloads for this challenge. We use a web-based application for 3D Design (i.e. Chrome, Safari, Firefox etc). You do not need to own a 3D printer either. This competition is completely online-based.
An online-based 3D design challenge where you get to create one, two or even three awesome solutions to one United Nations Sustainable Development Goal.
What are the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and why do we have to choose one of these?
In 2015 governments from around the world met at the United Nations (UN) where they agreed to a new set of Global Goals for the development of the world by 2030. Therefore, 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were decided. To find out more information about the UN SDGs 17 watch this brief overview here: UN SDG 17

This is a platform where #ThinkersPlay. We encourage people of all ages to get creative and take part. If you are under the age of 17, you could stand a chance to win one additional “secret” prize.
Hint: This addition will help you create and see a virtual future like none other! 😉
Of course, but then your challenge will not be considered for the end prize.
Yes! Whilst the challenge content will remain the same, you could select another Sustainable Development Goal to provide a solution towards which would count as your second entry.
Remember, with every #ThinkersPlay Challenge purchase, R50.00 gets sponsored towards our EduCare Initiative. So, if you have a little more change to spare, this could go a long way!

Some of our Thinkers:
We couldn't decide on just one Thinker this month, so we ended up chooses two. But the two meant it had to be four. #siblinglove
This photo was 100% a posed picture BUT these two Thinkers were our March #ThinkersPlay Challenge winners.
Ideating an idea
In February, we were hosting #ThinkersPlay Clubs. As part of the Thinker Design Process, one of the first things we do before getting started is ideating.
Way back when we were open (Pre-COVID19) we also did Robotics. We will be open our Clubs again one day. For now, we love seeing the challenges that Thinkers are submitting. #ThinkersPlay
